Jake
Knowles started racing in 2001 in the cruiser class at Dixie and Rome Speedway.
His cruiser car was a Cadillac which was driven by 2 people. The driver drives
and works the brakes and the passenger works the gas. He worked the gas unless
his dad rode with him and then he would drive. He finished 2nd in the points
for the year.
In 2002 he received his first real race car which was one of his dad’s.
It was a 1996 Jig-A-Lo leaf spring car. Finished 3rd in the points for the year.
Jake won the Sportsman race at the Hardee’s Shootout at Dixie Speedway.
He qualified on the pole and led every lap.
In 2003 it was a year to remember. Won 5 races by July with Dixie’s rules
Knowles had to start no better that 6th until he won one more race so guess
what he did and had to start in the rear every week, but that didn’t stop
him, he won 2 more and won the track championship at Dixie and Rome Speedway.
Then the Alabama State Race in Phenix City, Alabama. The 4th of July weekend
he went to Atomic Speedway (never been there) made the race and finished 8th.
Knowles also went to North Georgia Speedway (never been there either) drew in
back for heat race made the feature (think there was around 40 cars) finished
5th.
In 2004 Knowles would move up to Limited Late Model and drive another one of
his dad car, 2001 Warrior Chassis. He would race at Dixie and Rome Speedway
where he won 8 feature events and won the track championship in the Limited
Late Model Division.
In 2005 Knowles started out in the Limited Late Model division at Dixie Speedway
where he won the first race. Then a phone call from Mike Stewart came in June
and asked if Jake wanted to drive his car in the crate motor race at Eldora
Speedway in Ohio. It was called the Prelude to the Dream. There Jake won the
first heat race, started on the pole for the feature and won the race. To win
at the legendary Eldora Speedway is a very proud accomplishment. From that weekend
on Knowles would continue to drive for Stewart to a very good season. Knowles
traveled around the southeast racing with the O’Reilly Southern All-Stars
and Lucas Oil NARA Dirtcar Series.
In 2006 Knowles started out the year with Mike Stewart running the O’Reilly
Southern All-Stars and at the end of May decided to depart ways and hooked up
with longtime friend and track owner of Cleveland Speedway Monty Morrow to complete
the 2006 season. The two raced the O’Reilly Southern All-Stars and the
Advanced Tennessee Thunder Series’.
In 2007 Knowles continued to race for Monty Morrow where they were crowned the
2007 Top Tracks Challenge Series champion and finished 4th in the O’Reilly
Southern All-Stars points and second in the Rookie of the Year chase. Both series’
had conflicting schedules where it was hard to compete for the title in each.
In 2008 Knowles continued to race for Morrow, they had 3 features wins which
one included the Rome Boss. The Rome Boss is a prestige race in the Southeast
area.
In 2009 Knowles had a pretty exciting year. He claimed his 1st Lucas Oil Dirt
Series win and his 1st Southern Regional Racing Series win both at Cleveland
Speedway. Also had wins at Dixie Speedway and Green Valley Speedway. The most
exciting thing of the year was traveling to South Africa for 2 weeks and having
2 heat wins and a feature win for one night of racing at Worchester Motor Club
Oval Track.
Plans for 2010 will have Knowles traveling back to South Africa for the month
of February racing a different race tracks. Then returning back to the United
States he will continue to race for Monty Morrow and compete around the Southeast
in the Southern All-Star Series, the Lucas Oil dirt Series and other big paying
races.
